When breast cancer metastases are heated with an inserted microwave needle, the resulting air bubbles appear as white spots on ultrasound. When the lesion turns white on all sides, it is observed that it is, as it were, completely warmed up and cooked. The blackening in the center of the tomogram represents air vapor from the burn, while the blackened area on PET images represents dead cancerous tissue.
